Sutter's section title hopes end in semifinals

RIPON, CA (MPG) – The Sutter varsity volleyball team had its hopes for a section title ended on Tuesday night with a three-set sweep loss at Ripon in the semifinals of the Division IV 2022 CIF Sac-Joaquin Girls Volleyball Playoffs.
The loss snapped the Huskies’ (28-5-1, 14-0 Pioneer View League) 14-match winning streak. Sutter came into the match as the No. 3 seed against the No. 2 seed Indians (21-10, 10-2 Trans Valley League).

Ripon dominated the first set, more than doubling up the Huskies by a score of 25-12. Sutter played a much closer second set, yet the Indians still prevailed, 25-20. The final set was even closer, but Ripon was victorious once again, winning 25-21 to earn the match win.
Ripon will play No. 1 seed Sonora at Modesto Junior College in the section championship game on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Huskies were led in kills by sophomore outside hitter Torrence Harter who had six. Senior setter Mia Minard and junior libero Maddy Jones each had two serving aces. Minard added a team-high 18 assists.

Senior defensive specialist Natalee Gardner recorded a game-high nine digs. Juniors, defensive specialist Rylee Gillespie and setter Jaycee Lee, tallied seven digs a piece.
The Huskies’ season isn’t over yet despite the defeat. Sutter has already qualified for the CIF State Playoffs and the brackets will be revealed on Sunday.
