MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) – The weather was perfect for a great night of baseball watching the Gold Sox at the intimate Colusa Casino Stadium. This was Americana at its finest. Being a first-timer at the stadium, it was as entertaining getting to know some of the locals, watching all the kids run around enjoying themselves in the team promotions between innings, and kicking back for some baseball with friends.
The Gold Sox are back this year, literally by popular demand. The team had closed operations after last season, only to be brought back with renewed business and local support. They have proven to be a vital part of the community.
The Gold Sox are putting on a good show this year with a winning record and a fun game-day experience. The night of June 8th, included their fireworks show, set off from centerfield shortly after the end of the game. It was definitely worth waiting to see.
The Gold Sox crushed Atwater, putting the game out of reach in the second inning with 9 runs scored. It was a dominating offensive inning. The highlight was a bases-loaded triple by Angel Maurico to left-center field.
Gridley’s own Kellen Brothers, a freshman at Yuba College, pitched a strong five innings of 4-hit baseball, giving up only 1 run. It was the first run he had allowed yet this year in three games. He left the game with a 14 – 1 lead. The final score would be a lopsided 16 – 1.
If you get the chance, come out and see a future game. The food at the concession stands make for a good dinner for the family and the prices are very affordable. The team staff members made the whole experience even better with their fantastic customer service.
