Two meetings in October gave hundreds of constituents the opportunity to learn more about the plan for utilizing $2.7 billion in Proposition 1 funds for water storage and to send a clear message of support for the Sites Reservoir project. The North State Water Forum in Chico was hosted by Senator Jim Nielsen, Congressman Doug LaMalfa, and Assemblyman James Gallagher and included a panel of water experts on the current situation in the North State. More than 300 people showed up for that event. The California Water Commission (CWC) then held its regular meeting in Yuba City where more than 200 people were in attendance. The message was strong and clear about the need for water storage and Sites Reservoir as was noted by a commissioner’s comment that when meetings are held elsewhere in the state they plan for 40 people, but when the meetings are Northern California, they plan for 400 attendees. In a statement, Nielsen said, “I am proud to represent you in this effort and urge you to continue to speak out on this critical project.” The CWC is accepting public comments at https://cwc.ca.gov/Pages/Public_Review.aspx.
