MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - The Marysville Drakes didn’t move in the standings of the Pecos League Pacific division as they stayed in the sixth spot after going 2-3 from July 9-15.

Marysville beat Martinez on the road on July 11 to begin the post all-star break on a good note. The Drakes have been able to win in Martinez a couple times throughout the season but will see them one last time on the season on Saturday, July 29 in the closing weekend of the regular season.

Marysville is 1-4 against Martinez at Bryant Field this season and the final meeting is crucial as Martinez was a full game ahead of the Drakes in the standings prior to play on Sunday, July 16.

Marysville (19-20) dropped two games on July 12 and 14 to the Pacific division leading San Rafael Pacifics. San Rafael had the best record in the entire Pecos League on July 16 with a 30-7 record prior to play.

The Drakes have played the Pacifics competitively in most of the games they’ve played against one another this season. San Rafael has one more game against Marysville for the season on Sunday, July 23.

The Pacifics are 4-0 at Marysville as the season dwindles down to the final two weeks.

The Drakes dropped their final game of the week on Saturday, July 15 to the Bakersfield Train Robbers. That game was the first of two regular season games between the two clubs.

Bakersfield was up 14-3 after the fourth inning and controlled the Marysville bats for the better part of the game.

The second win of the week for the Drakes came in a 14-8 victory over Vallejo on Thursday, July 13. Marysville scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth to get the six-run cushion to close the game out.

The story for the Drakes held true as you can add two more wins to the books when Marysville scores more than 10 runs in a game and three losses when they don’t.

Drakes manager Bill Rogan said to the Dispatch that he told his team every game is a “playoff” game. Prior to play on July 16, Marysville had 11 games to go with the season ending on Sunday, July 31.

The biggest benefit the Drakes have is having four off-days. Although San Rafael, Bakersfield and Martinez have four-off days remaining as well, the Lancaster Sound Breakers have one remaining.

On July 16, Lancaster was in fourth place with a 19-16 record and 12 road games remaining on the season with 16 to play.

Marysville had its final road trip of the season this week as they played at Bakersfield and had a two games series in Lancaster that begins tonight.

The Drakes had five of their final 11 games of the season against Vallejo and Dublin, who are below them in the Pacific division standings.
